			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS) announced today that the Institute for Population Health Improvement (IPHI) has been recruited to implement the Health Information Exchange (HIE) programs under the State’s Cooperative Grant Agreement with the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). The agreement marks the next phase in the process to strengthen California’s healthcare delivery system.</p>
<p>“Cal eConnect has been a terrific partner in helping get the Health Information Exchange program off the ground,” said CHHS Secretary, Diana Dooley.  ‘We will build on their success as we move onto the next phase of implementation.”</p>

<strong>Practical Solutions for Health Information Exchange and Quality Analytics</strong></h3>
<p><span style="color: #000000"><strong>Connecting California to Improve Patient Care</strong> is an annual conference featuring subject matter experts on electronic health records (EHR), personal health records (PHR) and health information exchange (HIE). Presentations, discussions and demonstrations will focus on practical solutions for securely sharing electronic clinical information between unaffiliated health care facilities, such as outpatient practices, hospitals, laboratories, imaging centers, long term care, home health, and public health. Conference attendees will learn best practices in clinical informatics, quality analytics, and HIE. Speakers will explain the current status of <a href="http://www.caleconnect.org/">ARRA</a> investments in health information technology (IT) in California, national software roadmaps for <a href="http://wiki.siframework.org/">standards and interoperability</a>, innovations in quality improvement, and emerging tools and opportunities for physician and patient engagement. </span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000">In addition to the <strong>Education Sessions</strong> in the main ballroom, Redwood MedNet will also host <a href="http://taskgroups.caleconnect.org/California+Connects">California Connects</a>, a two day <strong>Interoperability Exhibition</strong> co-sponsored by <a href="http://www.caleconnect.org/">Cal eConnect</a>. California Connects will feature EHRs and HIEs demonstrating practical and currently available interoperability standards as well as showing pilot instances of new national standards for health information exchange.</span></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The pilot for the Inland Empire Health Information Exchange (IEHIE) launched on Jan. 13. Orion Health, which IEHIE selected as the vendor, was sent the completed contract and has started the build out. The build out is anticipated to take two to three weeks for completion. Once complete, Orion will work with the pilot facilities to link them to the HIE. The pilot project consists of six hospitals, seven medical groups and one health plan.</p>
<p>Participating pilot hospitals include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Arrowhead Regional Medical Center</li>
<li>Loma Linda University Medical Center</li>
<li>Parkview Community Hospital</li>
<li>Redlands Community Hospital</li>
<li>Riverside Community Hospital</li>
<li>Riverside County Regional Medical Center</li>
</ul>
<p>The pilot project will last for 120 days, at which point the IEHIE will be open for additional members to participate.</p>
<p>Additionally, Richard Swafford, PhD, has been hired as executive director of IEHIE, which is a collaborative of hospitals, medical centers, medical groups, clinics, IPAs, physician practices, health plans, public health and other health care providers in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. IEHIE operates as a 501(c)(3) under the Inland Empire EHR Resource Center.</p>

<p>CalHIPSO is conducting a webinar to provide stakeholders with the latest information about the Medi-Cal EHR Incentive program, including the opening of the Medi-Cal Eligible Provider State Level Registry on December 15.</p>
<p>We will share talking points and identify resources available to stakeholders to help you communicate this information to providers. Representatives from Medi-Cal and CMS will be part of this call.</p>
<p>Agenda items will include:</p>
<ul>
<li>For Medi-Cal providers who wish to obtain an AIU payment for 2011, EHR contracts must be in place by December 31. Learn more about what information Medi-cal needs to have about these contracts.</li>
<li>Group registration and eligibility versus individual provider registration and eligibility &#8211; important points to emphasize to providers.</li>
<li>Tips for making the registration process go as smoothly as possible.</li>
</ul>
<p>Who should attend:  CalHIPSO Local Extension Centers, Service Partners, Outreach Partners, Provider Association Partners, other California REC partners, and other stakeholders who are interested in providing this information to providers.</p>
